COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
Lectures/discussions on various advanced
topics in quantum semiconductor structures.
The phenomena to be discussed include: the integer and fractional
quantum Hall effects; exciton-polaritons in microcavities; Bose-Einstein condensation; mesoscopic physics and single electronics; spectroscopy of
quantum wires and dots; carbon nanotubes; Bloch oscillations in superlattices; ultrafast and nonlinear optics; spintronics;
modern semiconductor devices; and quantum information processing. Students read original research papers and
review articles, and present seminars on assigned topics of contemporary
interest.
This course will NOT be offered in Fall 2006.
