Abstract:
I will review our scientific work on photocatalytic water splitting and carbon dioxide reduction under visible light illumination. For this purpose we have investigated colloidal semiconductor nanocrystal - metal nanoparticle heterostructures, in particular CdS nanorods and sensitized TiO2 nanoparticles decorated with Pt clusters. Key issues are the role of hole scavangers, the size and density of Pt clusters, charge separation and the relaxation dynamics of electrons and holes after photoexcitation.
