Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Tenure-Track (updated 11/10/16)

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a focus on digital and mixed-signal integrated systems and circuits, with applications in security, data science, biomedical, and other emerging areas. Extraordinary candidates from other areas of Computer Engineering are also welcome.

The department has a vibrant research program in Computer Engineering, along with programs in data science, nanoengineering, neuroengineering, and wireless & mobile systems with great national and international visibility. Our faculty rank among the top 10 most productive in the USA in both Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering.* Our faculty are known for their strong collaborative relationships within the department, across disciplines at Rice and internationally.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Engineering with a focus on machine learning. Extraordinary candidates from theoretical foundations of machine learning, sensor-based systems, and applications of machine learning to areas including security, energy, smart grids, IoTs, robotics, mobile systems, cloud computing, data science, health informatics, and biomedical devices are also welcome.

Based on Rice’s already strong work in data science, the university has recently announced a $43 million dollar initiative in Data Science. This commitment enhances the work of faculty in the ECE department; candidates for the ECE position will have a large group of colleagues to collaborate with both at Rice and in the Texas Medical Center.

A Ph.D. is required, or the Ph.D. requirements must be fulfilled by November 1 of the year employment commences, and the successful applicant will be required to teach undergraduate courses and build a successful research program. Open Rank Molecular Nanotechnology Faculty

Through the recently announced $150 million investment in research excellence, Rice University seeks new faculty members at all ranks, starting as early as July 1, 2017, in the broad area of molecular nanotechnology (MolNan). Successful candidates will drive a dynamic, innovative, and independent research program and will excel in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, while embracing Rice’s culture of excellence and diversity. MolNan faculty hires are expected to make original and impactful contributions in nanotechnology and in chemical engineering as an enabling discipline. The search will consider applicants from all engineering and science disciplines, with emphasis on those with research programs in sustainable energy (carbon-based, electron-based, water-based), catalysis, and polymers/soft-matter. The ideal candidate will pursue research with strong intellectual overlap with chemistry, physics, materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and other related disciplines.

Through the recently announced $150 million investment in research excellence, starting as early as July 1, 2017, Rice intends to hire multiple faculty members whose research focus is in data science. We seek two distinct kinds of specialists: (1) data scientists who can make fundamental contributions to the theory, algorithms, and systems aspects of data science, and (2) scholars who work on emerging applications of data science to problems in health and medicine, urban analytics, and high-volume or high-velocity data-intensive science. A successful candidate might have demonstrated capacity in either of these specialties, or in both of them.
