Congratulations to the following ECE students who have earned Chevron Scholarships for 2012-13 academic year.
Recipients of $1000 scholarships are ECE junior students:
||Lam Yuk Wong
Lam Yuk Wong
Lam Yuk Wong is currently a junior in Electrical Engineering. In Spring 2012, Lam Yuk was a research assistant for the Rice Efficient Computing Group, developing models for Urban Canyon in order to collect data and improve GPS performance in urban areas. In Summer 2011, she participated in the Peer Experience Exchange at the London School of Economics and Political Science, taking advanced courses in game theory in London. The following summer, as part of the same Peer Experience Exchange, Lam Yuk volunteered in a Peer program in Gansu, China, teaching game theory to secondary school students in rural China.
Zhiting Cai is currently a junior in Electrical Engineering. She has been an ECE course assistant for the 2012-2013 academic year, and a TA for CAAM courses for the 2011-2012 academic year. In the summer of 2012, Zhiting was a research assistant at the University of Freiburg, Germany on a project in “Energy Harvesting”, analyzing the generation and collection of power on an energy harvesting schematic.
Hejia Zhang is currently a junior in Electrical Engineering. Since August, 2012, she has been a research assistant at the Adaptive Computing and Embedded Systems Lab at Rice University, working on the design of a VLSI implementation of an approximate message passing algorithm. Hejia was the Chair of Rice’s ASME Design Competition for the 2011 academic year. She has also been participating in the REAP program of Rice’s OISS, helping to advance Rice’s visibility to prospective international students
The following ECE senior students have earned $500 scholarships:
||Lisa Anne Hendricks
Patrick Breen is currently a senior in Electrical Engineering and has been conducting research in mobile health applications in the Center for Multimedia Communication at Rice. Patrick was a co-author on a research paper on breath analysis through laser absorption spectroscopy (LAS) for health applications. In addition, Patrick was a teaching assistant and helped to develop the robotics labs in the new freshman elective, ELEC 101, on Elements of Electrical Engineering.
Elaine Chung is currently a senior in ECE and has had several engineering research internships. In the summer of 2011, Elaine was a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, CO in the area of Reverberation Chamber Tests for Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output Radios. During the summer of 2010, she was a research intern at the University of Maryland where she studied the propagation of electromagnetic waves through plasma.
Lisa Anne Hendricks
Lisa Anne Hendricks is currently a senior in Electrical Engineering with a specialty in nanoengineering and photonics. In addition to her research at Rice, Lisa Anne was a participant in the National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN) REU program at Wireless Integrated Microsystems Center at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor during the summer of 2011. She worked to characterize Aluminum nitride thin films to be used in MEMS devices.
