Meet Giuseppe Vinci, Dan Duncan and Rice Academy Postdoctoral Fellow

June 2017

Vinci.GPlease join us in welcoming Giuseppe Vinci to the ECE community! Dr. Vinci has received a Dan Duncan Postdoctoral Fellowship and a Rice Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship and will be working with Dr. Genevera Allen (STAT) and Dr. Xaq Pitkow (ECE/Baylor) in the field of computational neuroscience.

“My research will focus on high-dimensional statistical inference and computational neuroscience, in particular, the study of the connectivity of thousands of neurons to explain brain's functions and to help engineers to design more effective prosthetic devices, such as bionic eyes,” Vinci explained.

He obtained a BSc in Economics at the University of Catania in 2009, and an MSc in Economics and Social Sciences at Bocconi University, Milan, in 2012. He then moved to Carnegie Mellon University to study Statistics and its applications to Astronomy and Neuroscience. In 2013 he obtained an MSc in Statistics, and this summer he will defend his Ph.D. thesis, "Statistical inference about functional connectivity from multi-neuron recordings.”

Besides his love of statistics, “playing the piano and composing music have always been my great passions that I will never give up,” he said. “I also like to cook several Italian dishes.”
