ECE adds new Professor in the Practice of Computer Technology
Gary Woods
Dr. Gary L. Woods has joined ECE as Professor in the Practice of Computer Technology.
Professor in the Practice appointments encourage the sharing of professional experience by experts outside academia with students at Rice. Bringing a strong background in semiconductor device physics, optical physics, and electrical engineering, Woods will teach ELEC 305 during the fall semester and ELEC 342 in Spring 2009, while assisting with the undergraduate program.
Professors in the Practice have all worked in industry and possess invaluable experience. Dr. Woods’s extensive industrial experience in Silicon Valley includes several engineering and high-tech companies as well as startups.
He received the Ph.D and M.S. in Applied Physics from Stanford University. Dr. Woods is no stranger to Rice ECE, where he earned his B.A. in Physics and B.S.E.E. in 1988.
