ECE welcomes new faculty member

Beginning in the fall semester, Dr. Qianfan Xu joins ECE as an assistant professor.
Professor Xu joins the ECE faculty directly following his industry experience at Hewlett-Packard Labs where he worked on photonic devices for on-chip optical interconnections and quantum information processing. He earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University in 2007, with a research focus on silicon nanophotonics and optoelectronics.
Qianfan received the Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees from Tsinghua University in Electronic Engineering in 1999 and 2002 where he received the highly esteemed Outstanding Graduate Student Award.
Positioned among the leaders in the area of nanophotonics, he will be a featured speaker during the ECE Annual Corporate Affiliates Conference, October 15, 2008. Xu has published more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as Nature, Nature Physics, Nature Photonics, and Physical Review Letters.
