Tim Dehne (EE '87) - 2005 REA Outstanding Young Engineering Alumnus


Tim Dehne, senior vice president of R&D, leads the global R&D organization for National Instruments in Austin. His responsibilities include product strategy, product development, and product quality.

In his current role, Dehne manages R&D centers in the United States, Germany, China, and India. Under his direction, NI R&D has developed and adopted global strategies, processes, and metrics for successfully innovating quality products that lead to worldwide customer success. NI engineers work together to design, build, and test virtual instrumentation software and hardware to become part of a broad platform of computer-based solutions with unmatched integration. During his 16 years at National Instruments, Dehne has served as vice president of engineering, marketing, strategic marketing, as well as GPIB product marketing manager.

Dehne is a member of the Dwight Look College of Engineering External Advisory Council at Texas A&M University and serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for R&D Magazine.

The Brown School of Engineering recognized Dehne during an event on November 11. The Rice Engineering Alumni Association presents the Outstanding Engineering Alumnus award annually, recognizing outstanding engineering alumni in two categories. The Outstanding Engineering Alumnus award recognizes alumni for careers of outstanding professional achievement and community service. The Outstanding Young Engineering Alumnus award recognizes the achievements of engineers under the age of 40.
