Richard Baraniuk receives George R. Brown Award for Superior Teaching

“Dr. Baraniuk is very enthusiastic about electrical engineering, especially DSP.  This enthusiasm has quite a positive impact on his students and has encouraged many of us to pursue signal processing”…Gina Upperman, ECE Junior

Known as “Rich” around the department, Richard Baraniuk has earned the George R. Brown Award for Superior Teaching. Each year, Rice University alumni recognize six faculty members with this award. Baraniuk is Victor E. Cameron Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering,  and Founder and Director of the Connexions® Project. His research and teaching interests include wavelets, natural image modeling, networks, and time-frequency analysis. Baraniuk previously won the Brown Award for Superior Teaching in 2001 and 2003, and the Charles Duncan Junior Achievement Award for Outstanding Faculty in 2000.

“Dr. Baraniuk shows great enthusiasm, constantly providing opportunities for our involvement in the department and the electrical engineering community,” says Charlie Ice, a senior electrical and computer engineering student.  “Above all else, he believes in us and without a moment's hesitation willingly takes risks to make sure that we are successful; it is that heartfelt belief in us that allows us achieve anything.”
