ELEC 303 (Fall 2009), CRN: 13633

“Introduction to Random Signals”

Dr. Farinaz Koushanfar

Electrical and Computer Engineering, Rice University

Grading policy

·         The breakdown of the grades is outlined on the course webpage ().

·         The homeworks, Matlab assignments, and quizzes are take-home, but the midterm and final will be in class.

Homework policy

·         The homework is due in class, exactly the day the corresponding solutions are posted. The solutions are posted after the class, so you have time until the end of the class to turn in the homework. The dates for solution posting can be found on the class website:  http://www.ece.rice.edu/~fk1/classes/ELEC303.htm

·         Late homework that is turned in after the solution is posted does not get a score

·         The students can work on problem sets in groups, but every person should independently write their own solutions. Copying the solutions without understanding the concepts and trying to work it out yourself would result in bad performance on quizzes, midterm, and final exam

Honor code

The academic Honor System is one of the most valued traditions at Rice, but it can only be effective if the entire student body accepts its responsibilities, individually and collectively, for maintaining the integrity of the system. The effectiveness of the Honor System also depends upon the support and cooperation of the faculty. The following is intended as a brief guide to policies and procedures. Every student should read the Constitution and By-laws of the Honor Council and the Honor Code. Copies can be obtained in the Office of the Assistant Dean, Student Judicial Programs. For more information visit: http://www.students.rice.edu/students/Honor_System1.asp?SnID=759775095

Cheating is a serious problem as it devaluates the work of honest and hard working students. Here is my policy on cheating:

·         First offense for cheating on

o    an exam: zero on the exam

o   a programming assignment or written homework: zero on the assignment and ten points subtracted from final course total

·         Second offense for cheating of any kind: failure in the course
