ELEC 306 HOMEWORK #3       Spring 2001

(1)     A rectangular cavity resonator has dimensions a = 3 cm, b = 6 cm, and c = 9 cm.  If it is filled with polyethylene (e = 2.5 e0), find the resonant frequencies of the first five lowest-order modes.

(2)     An air-filled cubical cavity of size 3.2 cm is made of brass (sc = 1.37 ´ 107 S/m).  Calculate: (a) the resonant frequency of the TE101 mode, (b) the quality factor at that mode.
