This information is current as of 11/10/2000. Eventually, it will become outdated, so you might periodically update it. long-eared and short-eared -- As of this morning, these two are the fastest Owlnet servers at Rice. The are both 220R machines with dual processors and 2GB of RAM. It is my understanding that these machines are available for any interactive usage (Matlab, Magic, etc). Long running background jobs should not be run here. forest and jungle -- These are also fairly new machines, being Ultra 250 class servers with 1 GB of RAM and two processors each. Also for interactive jobs, these machines are perfect for any day to day things that need to be done on Owlnet. great-gray and great-horned -- These are also Ultra 250s, but they are newer and faster than forest and jungle. These machine are reserved for background jobs, so long running simulations should go here (defined as no interaction for a period longer than 5-10 minutes). They both have plenty of horsepower to do this. ural and verm -- These are now the slowest Owlnet servers (they're just souped up Ultra 1s, similar to those in the Owlnet labs). Background jobs should also be run here, but they will be slower. Stanton
