MURI Goals:
Design and fabrication of nanoshells and other nanoparticle assemblies with a tailored and optimized optical/electromagnetic response in the infrared and submillimeter-wave spectral regions;
Development of films and thin-film device structures with passive or active control of electromagnetic properties in any region of choice from the visible to the millimeter-wave;
Characterization of the optical, electromagnetic, and photophysical response of nanoshells and nanoparticle assemblies;
Theoretical investigations of local nanoshell properties, such as applied field response, interparticle interactions and collective effects;
Development of a nanoshell-based all-optical biosensor and bioassay based on surface enhanced Raman response.
