The ECE administrative staff teambuilding retreat for the semester was a trip to the Houston Rodeo on Friday, March 20, to attend the Llama Dressing competition. For those not familiar, llama dressing is exactly what it sounds like – a handler dresses their llama in a costume, and dons a complementary costume. To prepare for their trip to the rodeo, and to practice for a potential showing next year, the staff each dressed their own miniature llamas and had a reveal at their most recent staff meeting.
Randy Fly, the hands-down winner, created a stop-motion video in which his llama traveled to another realm, and came back as a lego llama. Watch it here.
Other contenders for the top prize included Madonna-llama and Obama-llama. Also making a good showing were Cinderella, Zoro, Organization-llama (see: post-its), Butterfly, Ladybug, and Dolly llama.
Thien Ha, ECE’s financial and research administrator, was speechless at the creativity, saying, “I don’t know what to say.”
“The seed was planted two years ago when faculty member Jacob Robinson came to Rice,” Department Administrator Carrie Toffoletto said.
“Dr. Robinson’s passion for llama dressing spread to the staff, who got a kick out of the idea,” she explained.
The staff looks forward to next year’s competition and a possible foray into the actual llama dressing arena.
