Congratulations to Naomi Halas, Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University, on winning a 2017 Weizmann Women and Science Award! The Weizmann Women & Science Award is a biennial award established in 1994 that honors an internationally renowned woman scientist who has made significant contributions in their respective fields, as well as to the scientific community in general.
Dr. Halas is receiving the award "for pioneering and seminal contributions to the field of plasmonics, which have profoundly influenced modern optics - both in basic understanding and in applications."
The objective of the award, which includes a $25,000 research grant for the recipient, is to promote women in science, and to provide a strong role model to motivate and encourage the next generation of young women scientists.
Dr. Halas will attend the award ceremony, to be held on Wednesday June 7, at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. In addition to being presented with the award, Dr. Halas will also deliver a distinguished lecture at the event.
