A team headed by Ashutosh Sabharwal
, professor and chair of electrical and computer engineering (ECE) at Rice University, earned the Best Community Paper Award at the ACM MobiCom 2019
, the 25th edition of the premier ACM conference.
Sabharwal’s co-authors are Aidan Curtis, a senior in ECE at Rice; Amruta Pai, a fourth-year doctoral student in ECE at Rice; Jian Cao, who earned her Ph.D. in ECE from Rice this year and now works as a research scientist at Facebook; and Dr. Nidal Moukaddam, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Baylor College of Medicine.
The award goes to the paper that “contributes the most to the broader research community in terms of real data, or new software, hardware or other artifacts.”
A Rice ECE student won another award at the same conference. The Best Paper Honorable Mention Award went to “Towards Low Cost Soil Sensing Using Wi-Fi,” written by Jian Ding, a fifth-year doctoral student in ECE, and Ranveer Chandra, the chief scientist of Microsoft Azure Global.
