During this exciting time of year, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Rice University is thrilled to announce the department's 2019 Chevron Scholarship winners are Christina Crassas and Frank Yang.
Presented once a year to undergraduate sophomore or junior students pursuing a degree in ECE, both Crassas and Yang were nominated by faculty based on their interest in the energy industry along with their ECE scholastic achievements at Rice.
Frank Yang, a junior electrical engineering and physics student, said of the announcement, “At Rice, I have gotten to explore my interests through courses and photonics research work with Professor Gururaj Naik. The Chevron Scholarship will help me to continue pursuing my goals and passions related to the energy sector here at Rice.”
Yang said he has interests that include device physics and how light-matter interactions can be applied to technologies like solar cells — a growing energy research area.
