The lab for ELEC 306 is located in Abercrombie A122.
There are no fixed lab hours; you can work in the lab whenever you want
(subject to other people wanting to do the same thing).
This means you will need a key, which you should get from Mr. Fly in A146.
This room is shared with ELEC 435 during the first semester (the old printers,
disk drives, etc. in the shelf at the far end of the room are for them), and may
also be used by some 494 groups.

Workbenches
Most of the equipment is set up on the four workbenches.
Somewhat unimaginatively, they will be referred to as
Southwest (SW), Northwest (NW), Northeast (NE), and Southeast (SE).
Each bench has a scope and power supply,
but otherwise each has a different selection of equipment.
- SE
-
The computer on the Southeast bench
runs the GNU Radio software under the Linux operating system
(all of the other computers currently run Windows).
This computer is interfaced to the USRP (Universal Software Radio Peripheral)
high performance A/D and D/A converter.
it is currently the home of the Tektronix 191 RF signal generator.
- NE
-
This bench supports most of the RF test equipment, specifically
- PTS 160 Frequency Synthesizer
- HP 8648A RF Signal Generator
- Advantest R3131A Spectrum Analyzer
- HP 5316B Universal Counter
The computer has two data conversion systems:
- A National Instruments 6251 DAQ card:
1.25 Msps, 16 bits.
- An M-Audio Delta-44 sound card:
96 ksps, 24 bits.
- NW
-
This bench is intended for SMD (and other) assembly.
- Weller WD2M soldering system, including WMP iron and
WMRT thermal tweezers.
- OK PS-800 soldering iron.
- Xytronic 137 ESD temperature controlled soldering station
with desoldering tweezers.
- Xytronic 850D hot air system.
- B&L stereo microscope.
- Genrad 2220 Bug Hound.
- Reflow soldering oven (actually a toaster oven).
- Refrigerator for solder paste.
There are additional soldering related tools and supplies in the drawer marked
"Soldering Materials" to the left of the bench.
The drawer marked "Tools" just above this contains additional assembly tools,
such as pliers, tweezers, knives, etc.

Warning
The toaster oven and the Sunbeam micro refrigerator have been contaminated with lead.
DO NOT place any food items in either of these.

- SW

This bench has everything that's left over.
The Dell computer has another NI 6251 DAQ card.
The microwave oven can be used to heat your lunch, or as a source of 2.4 GHz signals.
Put nothing BUT food items in this oven.
