PCB Layout

The process of going from a circuit design to a printed circuit board which embodies that design is a multi-step process. The choice of where to divide the steps is somewhat arbitrary, but the following list is fairly representative:

  1. Schematic capture.
  2. PCB layout.
  3. PCB fabrication.
  4. Assembly.

The first two are usually tied together by the use of a common software package, but usually divided among two distinct programs. The following tutorial will cover the first two steps using tools from the Cadence design software package. The example we will use will be the I2C D/A converter module from Exercise 3, so at the end of the tutorial you will have finished that portion of the exercise.
