Location Sensor for Mindstorms NXT
National Instruments (who provide the software used
by the Lego Mindstorms system) is looking for ways
to improve the Mindstorms experience.
One module they would like to see is a
location sensor which would tell the Mindstorms robot
where it is with respect to its fixed environment.
Here are the specifications such a module should meet:
-
Resolution.
1 cm.
-
Accuracy.
±5 cm.
-
Sensing Area.
At least 25 square meters.
-
Number of Simultaneously Operating Sensors.
At least four.
-
Compatibility.
Size and shape of the mobile component should be
close to that of existing Mindstorms NXT sensors.
Must not interfere with other standard Mindstorms NXT
sensors.
Must operate in the presence of interference from other
such sensors, including other location sensors.
-
Power.
Should use NXT brick battery power.
-
Cost.
Comprable to that of existing Mindstorms NXT sensors.
