Processing Sound in the Brain
The brain, like every other part of the body, is made of single cells.
Neural tissue cells are called neurons.
Neurons come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but all have the same basic parts.
The Neuron: The Brain's Building Block
-
Dendrites and the soma receive inputs from other neurons.
-
The soma contains the cell's
nucleus and "runs the show".
-
The axon carries the neuron's
signal, the action potential, to other neurons.
