AVIRIS vs Landsat TM resolution of vegeatation spectral features. While the strategically placed Landsat TM bands bring out the "green peak " just shortward of 0.6 microns, the chlorophyll absorption feature and the "red edge" straddling 0.7 microns, hyperspectral resolution also allows detailed information about the cell structure between ~ 0.7 and 1.3 microns, as well as various absorption features caused by plant constituents such as cellulose and lignin, humic and tannic acids, pectins, starch and others, occuring at many wavelengths over the AVIRIS spectral window.
